Engagement ring

Purchase

The tradition in many cultures has been that the future groom privately select and purchase a ring, to be presented to his desired bride when he proposes. More recently, some couples have chosen to select an engagement ring together. In countries where both partners wear engagement rings, the matching rings may be selected and purchased together.

The price for an engagement ring can vary considerably depending on the materials used, the design of the ring, whether it includes a gemstone, the value of any gemstone, and the seller. The idea that a man should spend two to three months' personal wages for an engagement ring originated from De Beers marketing materials in the early 20th century, in an effort to increase the sale of diamonds. In 2007, the average cost of an engagement ring in USA as reported by the industry is $2100. yoga rug

When shopping for a ring with a gemstone such as a diamond, the price can depend significantly on the quality of the gem. Diamonds have a standardized description that values them according to their carat weight, color, clarity and cut. Other gemstones, such as sapphires, rubies, moissanite, emeralds, are less common choices. These may be chosen to honor a family tradition, to use family heirlooms, to be unique, to be socially responsible, to fit the individual's stylistic preferences, or to manage cost. Synthetic stones and diamond substitutes such as cubic zirconias are also popular choices that reduce cost while maintaining the desired appearance. wool berber carpet

Legal ownership

In some states of the United States, engagement rings are considered "conditional gifts" under the legal rules of property. This is an exception to the general rule that gifts cannot be revoked once properly given. See, for example, the case of Meyer v. Mitnick, 625 N.W.2d 136 (Michigan, 2001), whose ruling found the following reasoning persuasive: "the so-called 'modern trend' holds that because an engagement ring is an inherently conditional gift, once the engagement has been broken, the ring should be returned to the donor. Thus, the question of who broke the engagement and why, or who was 'at fault,' is irrelevant. This is the no-fault line of cases."

One case in New South Wales, Australia ended in the man suing his former fiance because she threw the ring in the trash after he told her she could keep it, despite the marriage proposal failing. The Supreme Court of New South Wales held that despite what the man said, the ring remained a conditional gift (partly because his saying that she could keep it was partly due to his desire to salvage the relationship) and she was ordered to pay him its AUD$15,250 cost.

Tradition generally holds that if the betrothal fails because the man himself breaks off the engagement, the woman is not obliged to return the ring. Legally, this condition can be subject to either a modified or a strict fault rule. Under the former, the fianc can demand the return of the ring unless he breaks the engagement. Under the latter, the fianc is entitled to the return unless his actions caused the breakup of the relationship, the same as the traditional approach. However, a no-fault rule is being advanced in some jurisdictions, under which the fianc is always entitled to the return of the ring. The ring only becomes the property of the woman when marriage occurs. An unconditional gift approach is another possibility, wherein the ring is always treated as a gift, to be kept by the fiance whether or not the relationship progresses to marriage. Recent court rulings have determined that the date in which the ring was offered can determine the condition of the gift. e.g. Valentine's Day and Christmas are nationally recognized as gift giving holidays. A ring offered in the form of a Christmas present will likely remain the personal property of the recipient in the event of a breakup.

In the United Kingdom, the gift of an engagement ring is presumed to be an absolute gift to the fiance. This presumption may be rebutted however by proving that the ring was given on condition (express or implied) that it must be returned if the marriage did not take place, for whatever reason. This was decided in the case Jacobs v Davis 2 KB 532.

Styles

This wedding set contains two separate rings, either of which could be worn separately.

This wedding set contains two separate rings that look incomplete separately.

Most engagement rings, like any other kind of jewelry, can be classified according to their style. Since the middle of the 20th century, diamonds have widely featured in engagement rings. Solitaire rings have one single diamond. These traditional engagement rings may have different prong settings and bands. Another major category is engagement rings with side stones. Rings with a larger diamond set in the middle and smaller diamonds on the side fit under this category. Three-stone diamond engagement rings, sometimes called trinity rings or trilogy rings, are rings with three matching diamonds set horizontally in a row with the bigger stone in the center. The three diamonds on the ring are typically said to represent the couple's past, present, and future, but other people give religious significance to the arrangement.

A wedding set, or bridal set, includes an engagement ring and a wedding band that match as a set. In some cases, the engagement ring looks "incomplete"; it is only when the two halves are assembled that the ring looks whole. In other cases, a wedding set consists of two rings that match stylistically and are worn stacked, although either piece would look appropriate as a separate ring. Although the wedding band is not to be worn until the wedding day, the two rings are usually sold together as a wedding set. After the wedding, the bride may choose to have the two pieces welded together, to increase convenience and reduce the likelihood of losing one ring. A trio ring set includes a ladies engagement ring, ladies wedding band and a men's wedding band. These sets often have matching rings and are lower in price.

For men

In some countries (but not most of the Western world), both men and women wear engagement rings. Both rings are often in the form of a plain band of a precious metal. Sometimes, the engagement ring eventually serves as the wedding ring for the man.

Music video

The music video for "The Denial Twist" was directed by Michel Gondry. Like some of his previous work (namely The Chemical Brothers' "Let Forever Be" and Kylie Minogue's "Come Into My World"), the video features a spectacular array of visual effects as it follows The White Stripes from a talk show performance to a late night drive back to an apartment. As the camera pans in a circle, Jack and Meg appear distorted. This refers to the lyric of the song; that what people think is true is often shaped by the context in which information is presented to them and their willingness to be deceivedven by themselvess various aspects of the video radically shift in perspective, size, proportion and believability. The choice of Late Night with Conan O'Brien as a setting for the video, aside from the band's personal association, is due to the lesser known fact that, like many film and TV sets, the Late Night stage looks much larger on television than it actually is.

The optical illusion used in the video is the technique of forced perspective, through an Ames room and distortions derived from it.

Conan O'Brien in the music video for "The Denial Twist."

The creators of the distorted props, Jeff Everett and John Furgason, won a Music Video Production Association Award for Art Direction in 2006.

Conan O'Brien makes a cameo appearance in the video; The White Stripes had been a week-long musical guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien when they were promoting Elephant. The square-headed O'Brien doll in the video was a reference to a similar one given to the comedian at the end of their week-long stay on the show. The plaster blow-up was actually created by Gondry.

Writer Tom Breihan, who runs the Status Ain't Hood blog at the Village Voice website, also appears in the video. He blogged about his experience shooting the video before it came out, which led to Jack White dissing him in an interview with the British magazine NME.

This is Gondry's fourth video with The White Stripes, after "Fell in Love with a Girl", "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" and "The Hardest Button to Button". The video can be found on the DVD compilation Michel Gondry 2: More Videos (Before and After DVD 1)

The song is also the final 3" record made for the triple inchophone. However, it was never on general sale and only Jack himself had them to give out to fans, friends and family. These 3" records are extremely rare and very few have ever come up for sale on eBay.

Platform

The Hyundai i20 uses a completely new platform that was created at Hyundai's European technical centre in Rsselsheim to allow Hyundai to move into Europe's highly competitive supermini segment. A 2,525 mm (99.4 in) wheelbase helps endow the i20 with a generous passenger cabin. Suspension follows the supermini norm of MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam rear end with rack and pinion steering.

Engines chocolate chip cheesecake

The i20 will debut in Europe with a total of seven engine options, all with four cylinders. Three are petrol, including the recently designed 1248cc dohc 16 valve "Kappa" engine, while the rest are diesel engines. Two of the diesel engines are 1396 cc units, one with 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp) and 220 Nm (160 lbft) and the other a 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp) and 220 Nm (160 lbft) high power unit. They are joined by two 1582 cc engines having the same dohc and 16-valve top end architecture but delivering either 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) and 260 Nm (190 lbft) of torque or 128 PS (94 kW; 126 hp) and 260 Nm (190 lbft) of torque. raspberry cake filling

Hyundai claims that 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) diesel unit can return a class leading 115g/km of CO2 while sipping just one litre of HSD[clarification needed] to go 23.25 km/L (65.7 mpg-imp; 54.7 mpg-US) (4.3L/100 km) in the European combined driving cycle.[citation needed] All diesel engines and 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines come mated to five-speed manual transmission, there is an option of a four-speed automatic for some 1.4 petrol engined models, the 1.6 is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Safety

The Hyundai i20 earned Euro NCAP a maximum 5 star safety rating and scored an impressive six out of a maximum seven points in the "safety assist" category, receiving top marks for its belt reminder and electronic stability programme which minimises the risk of skidding by braking individual wheels. The i20 named Euro NCAP 'top five safest cars for 2009' which based on Euro NCAP maximum five star awards and their overall score.

A single-speed 'MultiPro' Dremel large wicker baskets

1947 advertisement for the Dremel Moto-Tool hanging fruit basket

Dremel is a brand of power tools known primarily for their rotary tools. The tools were originally developed by Albert J. Dremel, who founded the Dremel Company in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1993, the company was purchased by Robert Bosch GmbH, and today it is a division of the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation located in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Dremel's rotary tools are similar to the pneumatic die grinders used in the metalworking industry by tool or moldmakers.

Rotary tools

The Dremel Moto-Tool rotates a bit at high speed; the bit is held in a collet. Variable-speed versions may cover a range of 3,00037,000 RPM. The Dremel uses its speed as opposed to torque to get the job done. By inserting an appropriate bit (or burr) the tool can perform drilling, grinding, sharpening, cutting, cleaning, polishing, sanding, routing, carving and engraving. Both battery-powered and corded models are available. Dremel options include a miniature planer attachment and a saber saw attachment that lets the tool act much like a small reciprocating saw. The rotary tool has been around since 1945.

Other Dremel rotary tools include a cordless pumpkin carving tool, a cordless pet nail grooming tool, and a cordless golf cleaning tool.

Similar rotary tools (for example, those sold by Sears under their Craftsman brand) are also sometimes colloquially called dremels in an example of a genericized trademark. Some Sears Craftsman rotary tools are actually manufactured by Dremel, particularly those with model numbers beginning with 572.

Non-rotary tools

Dremel produces hot glue guns, scroll saws, contour sanders, and powered screwdrivers.

Dremel is also one of the manufacturers to release an oscillating tool in late 2008 after the patent had run out on Fein's Multimaster. Dremel's incarnation of this tool is called the Multi-Max.[citation needed]

History

Reid Tool Supply was started in 1948 by Mr. Liberty Reid. As an office manager and purchasing agent in a local tool supply and die shop, he discovered that there were many tools/parts which were not readily available. This inspired him to start Reid Tool Supply in his home, with the help of his wife, Gloria. Mr. Reid stocked those hard-to-get tools and parts in inventory for immediate delivery. Great customer service was one of the founding principles of Reid Tool Supply. In about 4 years, Reid Tool Supply moved from Mr. Reid's house and into a newly constructed warehouse. By 2005, Reid Tool Supply was offering a wider range of industrial tools and parts, and changed its name to Reid Supply Company to reflect its expanded offerings.Reid Supply Company (global industrial parts distributor), United SignGraphics (signage, custom and large format printing), Reid Safety (outerwear, workwear, safety products), Total Quality Machining (machining services and customization of Reid Supply stock products) and Professional Parts Warehouse (snow plow parts and accessories) encompass the collection of Reid companies or Reid Entities.

International Paper

History

International Paper was incorporated January 31, 1898 upon the merger of 18 pulp and paper mills in the northeastern United States. It's first president was Hugh J. Chisholm. The newly formed company supplied 60 percent of all newsprint in the country. In 1986, it acquired the HammerMill Paper Company, in 1988 the Masonite Corporation, and in 1989 the German paper company Zanders Feinpapiere AG and the French paper manufacturer Aussedat Rey. In 1999, International Paper purchased Union Camp Corporation and in 2000 purchased Champion International Paper. Additionally, International Paper currently owns shares in the Chilean company Copec.

One of the 18 original founding mills of International Paper c. 1908, built in 1888 as the Otis Falls Pulp & Paper Company at Chisholm, Maine dog treat ball

In 2005 and 2006, International Paper undertook significant restructuring, selling over 6 000 000 acres of forestland in the U.S., along with its coated paper, kraft paper, wood products, and beverage packaging businesses, as well as subsidiaries Arizona Chemical and New Zealand-based Carter Holt Harvey. The coated paper business (four mills in Maine, Michigan and Minnesota) were sold to Apollo Management and now operate as Verso Paper. The kraft paper business (composed of a kraft paper mill in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and a dunnage bag plant in Fordyce, Arkansas) was sold to Kapstone Paper and Packaging and operates as Kapstone Kraft Paper. The beverage packaging business, now called Evergreen Packaging, was purchased by Carter Holt Harvey, following the purchase of CHH by Graeme Hart. International Paper sold the Wood Products division of the company to West Fraser Timber Inc., out of Vancouver, British Columbia. This included 13 sawmills, making West Fraser the second largest producer of lumber in North America, next to Weyerhaeuser Company. bottoms up leash

International Paper is the largest producer of plastic lids and paper cups, manufacturing for the fast-food giants McDonald's, Wendy's, Subway and coffee giant Starbucks. The Wood Products division of International Paper was sold in 2007 to West Fraser Timberland Inc., a company headquartered in Vancouver. The company currently produces printer and copier paper, envelopes, corrugated packaging and shipping containers, consumer packaging for cosmetics, home entertainment and other retail markets, and food service packaging. It also owns Xpedx, a large North American distribution and logistics company.

International Paper is a former Dow Jones Industrial Average component, listed in the index from July 3, 1956 to April 7, 2004. It was one of three components to be dropped in the 2004 change, together with AT&T and Eastman Kodak.

Beginning February 1, 2007 the sale of the beverage packaging division was completed as New Zealand billionaire Graham Hart won the bid with nearly an 800 million dollar purchase. The division now operates under the Evergreen label.

On Monday March 17, International Paper, announced it is buying the containerboard unit of Weyerhaeuser Co. for $6 billion in cash.

In October 2007, International Paper formed a joint venture with Ilim Holding, Ilim Group, the alliance in the Russian forest sector.
